Shortcuts Automation Setup Guide

To automatically forward your SMS messages, the app uses a native iOS feature called Shortcuts Automation. Follow this simple, one-time setup to enable it.

Go to Automation

Open the Shortcuts app and tap the Automation tab at the bottom.

Create New Automation

Tap the plus (+) button in the upper-right corner to create a new Automation (or tap New Automation if you don't have any yet).

Select Message Trigger

Type “Message” in the search bar (or scroll down) and select the Message trigger.

Configure Trigger Conditions

  1. Ensure "Run Immediately" is turned on (available on iOS 17 and later, otherwise manual approval will be required for each message).
  2. Tap "Choose" next to Message Contains.
  3. In the pop-up, type a single space in the text field.
  4. Tap "Done", then tap "Next" in the top-right corner.

New Blank Automation

On the next screen, select New Blank Automation.

Add Action

Tap the blue + Add Action button.

Find "Forward SMS" Action

In the search bar, type “sms”. Under the "SMS to Email" section, select Forward SMS to Email.

Expand Parameters

  1. Tap the small chevron icon (›) to expand the action.
  2. Tap the grey “Text” chip next to Sender Number.
  3. From the menu at the bottom, choose Select Variable.

Select Shortcut Input

From the variable picker that appears above the action, select Shortcut Input.

Set Sender Property

  1. A new blue "Shortcut Input" chip will appear. Tap on it.
  2. In the sheet that appears, pick Sender from the list of properties.
  3. Close the sheet by tapping the X icon.

Set Message Text Property

Repeat the process for the message body:
  1. Tap the grey “Text” chip next to Message Text.
  2. Choose Select Variable, then tap Shortcut Input.
  3. No more properties need to be set for this one. Tap Done at the top right of the screen.

All Done!

That's it! Your automation is now active. If it's set up correctly, it should look like the image. You can now close the Shortcuts app.
